Joint Statement from the League of Women Voters of Missouri
and the League of Women Voters of Kansas City

The League of Women Voters of Missouri issued the following joint statement with the League of Women Voters of Kansas City in response to the mass shooting at the celebratory parade for the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl victory.

“Our hearts are broken that once again all our lives were shattered by another shooting. One person was senselessly murdered while more than 20 others, many of them children, were shot and wounded. They will no doubt suffer long-term psychological as well as physical damage as a result of this senseless violence.  Nearly a million people had gathered at an event that brought us all together to celebrate. It was to be a day of real joy that ended in an all too common occurrence in our country.  Our laws are tragically lax in allowing the proliferation of guns. Missouri legislators must do more to protect our communities from the dangers of gun violence and to keep everyone safe."
