Spend some time with former U.S. Senator Jack Danforth to learn about his views on Missouri’s promise for fair maps, gerrymandering and why he opposes Amendment 3. Then hear best talking points and how to make the case for a No vote from the campaign director for No on 3, Sean Soendker Nicholson.

In addition to his distinguished Senate career, Sen. Danforth was U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and served eight years as Missouri’s attorney general. He currently serves on the board of the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates. Sen. Danforth was a vocal supporter of Clean Missouri in 2018.

Sean Soendker Nicholson is campaign director for the Clean Missouri coalition, working to defeat Amendment 3. He is a principal at GPS Impact, a Kansas City firm focused on communications and public affairs. Previously, he was executive director of Progress Missouri, a progressive advocacy organization. Sean lives in Kansas City with his family.

Presented by the League of Women Voters of Southwest Missouri for all League members across Missouri.

Join Sr. Simone Campbell and the Nuns on the Bus for a Town Hall for Spirit-Filled Voters. While this town hall is virtual, it is intended especially for those who live in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. Spirit-Filled Voters are voters who are committed to mending the gaps in our nation and are able to talk to their friends and family about the need to promote the common good this election. This town hall is for those who are committed to being Spirit-Filled Voters this election season, and beyond!

During the town hall, Sr. Simone and the Nuns on the Bus will talk about the great urgency of this election and why it’s important for Catholics and other people of faith to be spirit-filled, multi-issue voters. Then, using Zoom break-out rooms, participants will go into small groups with the Nuns on the Bus to practice talking about why they are a Spirit-Filled Voter. At the end of the event, Sr. Simone will commission participants to go forth and talk to their family and friends about mending the gaps in our nation this election season. The Town Hall for Spirit-Filled Voters is 90 minutes long and is highly interactive. Participants are encouraged to have their video turned “on” as much as possible and be willing to engage in the small and large group discussions.

We have a very full program planned, so we will be starting right at 6:30 PM! Please try to arrive on time (or even a little bit early)! Thank you!

Once again we need League members to urge registered voters who didn't vote in the last general election to vote. Please join the safe "at-home" postcard party.

We provide the short message, LWV postcards, address labels, and stamps (unless you want to donate the postage). You supply the elbow grease.

Sign up at the LWVKC.org Volunteer section (last item in the newsletter) and let us know how many postcards you can send or contact Symie Menitove, sdmenitove@gmail.com  directly.

This is a sample message:

Dear (first name)

We don't need to tell you how important this election is - you already know.

Please make a plan to vote by Election Day, Nov. 3.  (We're saying by Election Day, as
we're also encouraging voting early in person at any of the Board of Election locations
to avoid crowds and long lines.)

Sincerely,

Your first name

Advance voting - avoid the crowds and lines
