We Still Have Work To Do
Keep Calm and Move On
The election is over so it’s time to rest and recover from the intensity of our work. But don’t rest too long. The next election is scheduled for Spring of 2025. Our work never stops.
And our voters need us now more than ever. With Nazi marches through American cities, and their implicit threats against different parts of our society, a strong voice speaking out to protect all our citizens and guests is needed. The League, with its non-partisan policy, is in the best position to speak for them. So, step into the fight for our future.
Take care and stay safe.

| Biennial Election Season Celebration
We deserve to celebrate our successes for the year, and we will do that December 12 at the Kansas City Oasis, an events space perfect for our purposes. We will recognize those individuals and committees who have devoted so much time to our cause.
This event will be free for League members with a meal provided, and $25 for guests (having them join only costs $70…just sayin’). There will also be a cash bar so we can really celebrate in style.
So, save the date and sign up for the meal of your choice here! | New Member Orientation
Our next New Member Orientation will be held on Zoom, giving more people the opportunity to join us. If you are new to the League, or just want to hear about the different opportunities available for your volunteer time.
Registration is required, and may be found here! | Legislative Action Training
The Legislative Action Committee will be hosting a training session. This committee work provides a critical part of our mission, to hold our elected officials accountable by tracking legislation as it moves through our Capitol. If you are interested in joining this critical committee, be sure to sign up for the training here!
When: December 14, 2024 10:00 a.m.
Where: Kansas City Public Library, North East Branch, 6000 Wilson Ave

Getting to Know Our Members
| Rita Gulden wears a couple of committee hats. We first talked about the Finance Committee. She explained that the Financial Report & Monitoring Committee (the Finance Committee) keeps track of expenses, helps the other committees set their budgets for the year, and reports to the Board so that they know each month where the finances are.

Rita is retired, but her 3 grandchildren, who live less than a mile away, keep her busy. She also enjoys knitting, and belongs to a book club in the Northland. Currently, she is reading Heather Cox Richardson’s latest book – How the South Won the Civil War: Oligarchy, Democracy, and the Continuing Fight for the Soul of America War. “I like history and Richardson presents it in a way that is very understandable, relating different time periods to one another, and also including what women were doing.” | A Call to Action
Character Counts
I mentioned earlier that we would celebrate our successes, and there were many. The election proved that Missourians support the same issues the League does. The voters approved Amendment 3, the Right to Reproductive Freedom Initiative, derailing one of the most restrictive abortion restrictions in the country following the Dobbs decision sending the issue back to the States.

| We Want Your Blood
A Poke and a Sting to Save a Life
The CDC has updated its Covid-19 guidelines as they shift from pandemic response to endemic management. Though Kansas City still remains a high-risk area, we have decided to change our focus from Covid-19 vaccination to the tremendous need for blood donors. Two agencies collect blood in Kansas City, The American Red Cross and The Community Blood Centers. Please consider providing this gift of life as one of your community service projects. The websites are listed below.
The American Red Cross may be found here!
The Community Blood Centers may be found here! | Help Wanted
Observer Corps Chair
One of the more critical committees needs a leader to step up and take charge. The Observer Corps keeps our elected officials accountable through monitoring of their public meetings, often provided through Zoom. This individual will be trained in the use of the forms already developed and used by members to report to the League the actions considered and taken.
If interested, please contact Janelle Sjue here!
