Hurrah!

New Positions Adopted

We did it! Thanks to the hard work of the Election Administration Study Committee, and the members who showed up to the consensus meetings, as well as the success of our special meeting last Saturday, we have adopted 12 new positions to support our election administration processes.
Thank you all.
We are not done. We will submit our new positions, with the supporting study materials, to the State League for consideration.
Way to go LWVKC.

Candidate Forums
Direct Voter Education

The Forums Committee is busy planning seven Zoom candidate forums for the April 2 Municipal Election. Our two recent Independence City Council Candidate forums made front page news in the January 31 Examiner newspaper here!
Though only 45 people were live viewers of the two forums, there were 329 views of the recorded forums on our @LWVKC YouTube channel. The Forums Admin Team are confident that our decision to move all our candidate forums to Zoom benefits voters who may view our forum recordings at their convenience.

Black Suffragists Event
Kansas City Public LIbrary & Kansas City Athenaeum Present

“In 2020, the nation commemorated the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment granting U.S women the right to vote. That same year, the Greater Kansas City Black Suffragist Committee (GKCBS) formed with the mission to "enshrine the lives of those who dedicated themselves to a just cause, to illuminate the dynamic history of local suffrage and the fight for women’s rights, and to inspire our community to continue to protect the right of all people to vote."
Carmaletta Williams, CEO of the Black Archives of Mid-America, discusses the research of GKCBS, the long history of Black women’s activism, and the intersection with the struggles for abolition, suffrage, economic freedom, and civil rights. She further details the contributions of Black Kansas Citians such as Ida Bowman Becks, Minnie Crosthwaite, Josephine Yates, and others who took up the struggle locally for suffrage and civil rights.
The program is co-presented by the Kansas City Athenaeum in honor of Women’s History Month” (kclibrary.org).
When: March 24, 2024 2:00 p.m.
Where: Kansas City Public LIbrary, Central Branch Helzberg Aud. 5th Floor
14 W 10th St

A Call to Action
Power to the People

Margaret Atwood’s vision of our dystopian future now seems remarkably prescient as state legislatures, including Missouri’s, continue to pass onerous bills designed to restrict the civil liberties of people who don’t conform to the Christian ideals of those in power. These attacks include LGBTQ+ and DEI issues, along with assaults on our public school curriculum and library holdings.
And let’s be clear, legislation that denies liberties hurts all Americans because we all suffer when any one of us suffers.
Read the entire essay here!
But we can’t do it without you.
You may support League efforts in many ways - through your financial giving, by sharing our efforts and election information on social media, by volunteering in-person at an event or by working at home behind the scenes. We have volunteer needs that fit all schedules.
So…sign into your League account here!
Then, sign up to volunteer for one of the many opportunities available here!

And don’t forget we got here through hard work on our committees, which are always needing members to join here!

We Want Your Blood
A Poke and a Sting to Save a Life

Save a Life Today

The CDC has updated its Covid-19 guidelines as they shift from pandemic response to endemic management. Though Kansas City still remains a high-risk area, we have decided to change our focus from Covid-19 vaccination to the tremendous need for blood donors. Two agencies collect blood in Kansas City, The American Red Cross and The Community Blood Centers. Please consider providing this gift of life as one of your community service projects. The websites are listed below.

The American Red Cross may be found here!

The Community Blood Centers may be found here!
